What Is Network Marketing?
Often referred to as the “Peoples Franchise”, MLM companies set up the end user as the distributor of the products and give them the ability to both sell the product/service of the company and recruit and train new distributors to do the same thing. The reward for doing so is a commission from the sales generated by the distributor and the sales of the recruited distributors in his/her sales organization, or downline.
John Milton Fogg, the author of It’s Time for Network Marketing and The Greatest Networker in the World recently wrote the following: “Listen to the following statement, then choose the correct answer from the list of choices at the end: “In most Americans’ minds it’s a ’scam’ and a ’scheme’ – questionable or unethical at best, immoral and illegal at worst.
‘Many own-your-own entrepreneurial hopefuls have been hyped into turning over their life savings, only to see the company go out of business, taking their dreams down with them.’
‘Politicians, regulators and the media (especially the media) cry ‘foul’ whenever its name comes up. Newspapers, magazines and television news and talk shows regularly expose it for the ‘flim-flam rip-off it really is.’ Major corporations who get involved go out of their way to avoid any appearance of doing so. There is even a move in Congress to outlaw it altogether!’

Network marketing has taken the concept of franchising- providing independent entrepreneurs with a ready-made, low-risk, proven, turn-key small-business opportunity- and made some genuinely remarkable improvements on it. This system is very attractive because it offers wealth and independence for a relatively small up-front cost, unlike the average $250,000 investment required for a franchise. Network marketing allows more people to be able to participate and get their entrepreneurial juices flowing.

So we are entering a new era of network marketing and there is a lot of great predictions for the future.
MLM businesses operate in the United States in all 50 states and in more than 100 other countries, and new businesses may use terms like “affiliate marketing” or “home-based business franchising”. However, many pyramid schemes try to present themselves as legitimate MLM businesses. You will need to choose wisely. You will want to be sure to choose the right company. Companies that are debt free and that have been successful in using the MLM structure as their business model for a considerable period are good candidates to consider. Being part of a reputable company ensures your profits and potential loss are kept at minimal risk. Also watch for a company that has strong management and a solid branded product .Especially today with the ease of advertising and the facelessness of marketing on the internet, one needs to be able to evaluate companies well and do some due diligence before you commit.
